Fluttershy wept in pain as the monster closed in on her, her legs too weak to move her. Just as the beast got near enough, Rainbow crashes into it! Its' body rippling with the impact of the mighty blow. The impact was so severe it crushed Rainbow's Wing! The Pegasus then stumbled to her feet and braced herself in front of Fluttershy.

"Stay away from her!" Rainbow shouted at the top of her lungs and growled in a feral and intense manner, ready to defend her friend to the last breath.

This is an alternate upload for use on groups that don't allow gore or blood, the original which contains those things is linked below.

I happily present "Dashie Protects Fluttershy" a vector of the original linked below. This was a labor of love, and was by far the most complicated and technical vector I have ever attempted. I do hope that you will leave a critique or comment below because I worked very hard on this and would VERY much appreciate your feedback!

Many thanks to ~JinYaranda for letting me vector this

Well done, Alaxandir!

I like the bold, simple colors, and your contrast of light and dark. Rainbow's mane and tail colors really draw your eyes to center frame, and add definition to the composition. I also like that you used the "transparent hair" style, too. Seeing the character's eyes is critical, and this being an obvious (non-lifelike) cartoon illustration, it is preferred. The shadow play on Rainbow Dash really helps pop the image, and bring her and Fluttershy to attention. I also like the style of your ponies — the longer legs, slightly more angular and flatter head, more-defined muzzle, and fuller wings. They look more young adult than pre-teen.

Your facial detail helps "sell" the emotion here, and is the best part of the composition. Very good contrast between Dash's protective rage and Fluttershy's painful distress. Both the mouth and the eyes, especially, lend extra visual punch to each character's emotional state, and I love the nose detail on Rainbow Dash, too. The extra crinkle lines above her snout really sell her angry snarl!

The only critiques I would give would be for the rain effect and for Dash's broken wing. The rain looks more like streaks, instead of drops. A simple quibble, yes, but when taking in a scene, it's important that the viewer can quickly and easily discern the elements of the environment within that scene. In this case, it's hard for me to tell if that is rain, or sleet, or ... something. However, you did well with the water cascading effect on their manes, reinforcing the wet/water effect. More realistic raindrops would make the environmental factor instantly clear and less distracting.

Dash's broken wing bothers me for a couple reasons. The feathers, although waterlogged, look more like fur, the way they splay onto the ground beside her. I contrast this to her good wing, where you clearly define the shape of her primary (outer trailing edge) and secondary covering feathers. On the broken wing, it's hard to define any primary/covering features, as it just looks like a mass that is falling onto the ground. To most people, it probably isn't a big deal, but since I'm a bird-watching aviphile, it was something that caught my eye immediately.

Again, minor quibbles. Neither one seriously takes away from the overall piece, and both are certainly not primary-focus issues. Work on environmental realism and some more defined vestigial anatomy and it will really help focus the realism of the piece!

Well done, 8/10!

Aaaaaand ...

I just actually *read* the description, and see that you vectored the already-done work, so my critique is misplaced! Still, I do love the vector work!

Sorry about the misplaced critique!

Hehe, well I did try to keep true to the original I made a lot of adjustments to suit the vectoring, I must tip my had to JinYaranda because he masterminded this one; although I appreciate the feedback :)
